The 10th China National Japanese Speech Contest (SYSU Trial) Held

On April 30, 2015, the 10th China National Japanese Speech Contest (SYSU Trial) was held in Department of Japanese, School of Foreign Languages, Sun Yat-sen University. 11 students from the department participated in the competition, and five teachers served as the judges. Each contestant gave a speech on one of the two topics: “Prospects of China-Japan Relations: Opportunities and Challenges” and “Pros and Cons of Smartphones”. Wu Xinrong, a senior student won the first prize. She will take part in the 10th China National Japanese Speech Contest Regional Final (South China) to be held in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in May.

At the conclusion of the contest, Professor Qiu Yafen and Associate Professor Xie Chongning gave comments. They spoke highly of the impressing content, confident manners and great enthusiasm of the contestants. Japanese instructor Hada Honami provided suggestions on their pronunciations and pointed out the significance of smiling while giving speech.

On the same day, a performance of Japanese Puppeteer Dance was held in the School of Foreign Languages. Organized by Guangzhou Center for “Face-to-face Exchanges”, the exchange event invited Okano Masayuki, a graduate student from Daito Bunka University, to present the Japanese Puppeteer Dance to junior students of the Department of Japanese. Okano gave an introduction and a wonderful performance. He also taught the students some movements and gestures in the dance.
