Vice Minister of Education Du Yubo Inspects the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Town

On September 20, 2016, Du Yubo, Vice Minister of Education and Deputy Secretary of CPC Leading Group of Ministry of Education, inspected the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Town (CI-UCT). Vice Minister Du Yubo extended greetings to Chinese teachers, volunteers and other staff members of the Confucius Institute.
Associate Professor Qin Shengyong, Chinese Director of CI-UCT, reported the media environment of the Confucius Institute, the set-up of Chinese Major, and the promotion of Chinese language. Vice Minister Du Yubo praised the cultural activities launched by CI-UCT.

Vice Minister Du Yubo inspected the various functional office space, and learned about the basic information of both parties involved in the cooperation. He inquired about the extent of CI’s integration into the local university institutional fabric. Later on Vice Minster Du Yubo visited the staff members of the International Academic Programmes Office.
Vice Minster Du Yubo approved the work of international promotion of Chinese language and culture at CI-UCT. He required that the Sino-South African Cultural Exchange Mechanism should be brought into full play to spur the Confucius Institute into a new phase.
The University of Cape Town (UCT) is an important partner of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) in Africa. In 2010, SYSU and UCT jointly established the CI-UCT. In 2015, SYSU and UCT signed a university-level agreement on educational and academic exchanges.
