Ms. Cathryn Hlavka, Minister-Counsellor (Education & Research) of Australian Embassy in Beijing, visited SYSU

On June 10, Ms. Cathryn Hlavka, Minister-Counsellor (Education & Research) of Australian Embassy in Beijing, and Ms. Lei Xiaofeng, Senior Manager of Education, Science and Research Section of Australian Embassy, visited SYSU. Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building on South Campus, accompanied by Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of SYSU.

Vice President Zhu Xiping extended a warm welcome to the guests and introduced SYSU’s history, preponderant disciplines, joint running of schools, especially collaborations with Australian universities. He emphasized that SYSU has kept close cooperative relations with Australian universities and will continue to enhance and deepen cooperation and exchanges with educational and research institutions in Australia.

Ms. Cathryn Hlavka said that she was impressed by SYSU’s development in internationalisation and introduced the general situation of educational cooperation between Australia and China. She pointed out that the Australian government hoped to encourage more exchanges between Chinese and Australian universities through “Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships” and “New Colombo Plan”.

After the meeting, Ms. Cathryn Hlavka presented a lecture on Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships in Swasey Hall. She explained the kinds of the scholarships, eligibility and application process, and answered questions raised by the audience.

The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships programme is part of Australia Awards and is administered by Department of Education, Australia. The Scholarships and Fellowships available to Chinese applicants include Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship, Endeavour Research Fellowship, Endeavour Vocational Education and Training (VET) Scholarship, and Endeavour Executive Fellowship.
