Dr. John Hepburn, Vice President Research & International of University of British Columbia, visited SYSU

On the morning of May 9, Dr. John Hepburn, Vice President Research & International of University of British Columbia (UBC), and Dr. Weihong Song, Fellow of Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, Canada Research Chair in Alzheimer's Disease, and Special Advisor to the President on China, The University of British Columbia, visited SYSU. Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU met with the guests in Zhongshan Building. Prof. Ling Wenhua, Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, attended the meeting.

Vice President Zhu Xiping extended a warm welcome to the guests and introduced SYSU’s recent development, especially the international cooperation in running schools. Vice President John Hepburn briefly introduced UBC and said that UBC valued the cooperation with SYSU. The two sides exchanged ideas on student exchange and research collaboration, and agreed to explore cooperation in other fields on the basis of collaborations in medical sciences.

After the meeting, Vice President Zhu Xiping and Vice President John Hepburn signed a MOU on behalf of SYSU and UBC respectively. The two sides agreed to enhance educational and cultural exchanges, and provide students, faculty and staff with more opportunities in education and research cooperation.

Established in 1908, the University of British Columbia (UBC) is the oldest university in British Columbia, Canada. UBC is ranked No. 31 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2013-2014.
