A delegation from Trinity Western University visited SYSU

On the afternoon of April 21, a 3-person delegation led by Dr. Philip Laird, Vice President of Trinity Western University (TWU) visited SYSU. Members of the delegation also included Dr. Marvin McDonald, Director of M.A. Counselling Psychology Program of TWU.

Vice President Zhu Xiping met with the guests and introduced SYSU’s history, campuses, academic disciplines, research strengths and international development. He pointed out that SYSU has maintained good cooperative relations with Canadian universities, and he is happy to see substantive collaborations between the two universities.
Vice President Philip Laird gave a brief introduction to TWU, stressing that TWU lays emphasis on general education and its teaching level is among the top in Canada. He was impressed by SYSU’s international development in recent years and hoped to conduct collaborations with Department of Psychology and other schools at SYSU.
After the meeting, SYSU Vice President Zhu Xiping and TWU Vice President Philip Laird signed a MOU on behalf of the two universities. The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in teaching and research. Under this framework, TWU will help the Department of Psychology of SYSU to develop Masters Program in Counselling Psychology and enhance exchanges between teachers and students.
On the same day, the delegation also visited East Campus Library of Sun Yat-sen University. Prof. Gao Dingguo, Head of Department of Psychology and Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange were also present at the meeting.
Founded in 1962, Trinity Western University (TWU) is Canada’s largest private Christian university located in Langley, British Columbia. TWU has high academic strengths in applied sciences, especially Counselling Psychology. The Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Program at TWU has good research training and clinical practice training system, and is one of the best Counselling Psychology programs in Canada.
