On the afternoon of April 22, Du Zhanyuan, Vice Minister of Ministry of Education, came to SYSU and visited International Joint Laboratory of Clinical and Translational Research, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine and National Supercomputer Center - Guangzhou, accompanied by Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Xu Ningsheng, President of SYSU; Luo Weiqi, Director General of Department of Education of Guangdong Province; Lin Ji, Deputy Secretary-General of General Office of People’s Government of Guangdong Province; Lei Chaozi, Deputy Director-General of Department of Science and Technology of Ministry of Education; Li Mengfeng, Vice President of SYSU and Director of International Joint Laboratory of Clinical and Translational Research; Chen Wangnan, Director of President’s Office of SYSU; Liang Dan, Director of Office of Medical Science of SYSU; Li Jianchao, Secretary of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC); Ma Jun, Executive Deputy Director of SYSUCC; and Xu Ruihua, Deputy Director of SYSUCC. Vice Minister Du Zhanyuan inspected International Joint Laboratory of Clinical and Translational Research on North Campus. He visited the headquarters, field labs, core facility for research instruments, central facility of cell therapy and biotherapy, office and public demonstration area, inquired about international cooperation mechanism and resource sharing, and highly praised the cultivation and construction work of the Lab. Vice President Li Mengfeng introduced the development, cooperation basis, preparation and implementation of the Lab. Prof. Xiang Peng, who is in charge of the central facility of cell therapy and biotherapy, introduced the construction of the support platform.
Secretary Zheng Detao accompanied Vice Minister Du Zhanyuan to East Campus to visit National Supercomputer Center - Guangzhou. Yuan Xuefeng, Director of National Supercomputer Center - Guangzhou, introduced the running conditions, application fields and main users of Tianhe-2. Vice Minister Du Zhanyuan visited the computer room of Tianhe-2, and inquired about the application prospects of supercomputer and the training of supercomputer talents.

Vice Minister Du Zhanyuan visited the competition site of ASC14. Liu Jun, HPC General Manager of INSPUR Group and member of ASC14 General Organization Committee, introduced the history of ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge, the organizing of ASC14 and the finalist teams. Vice Minister Du Zhanyuan also talked in English with contestants from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, and hoped that all contestants will achieve good results in ASC14.
