From April 1 to April 3, Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin, President of Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), led a 6-person delegation to visit SYSU and attended the annual Advisory Board Meeting of Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University (CI-ADMU).

On April 2, the 2014 Advisory Board Meeting of CI-ADMU was held in Zhongshan Building. The ADMU attendees were Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin, President of ADMU and Chairman of the Advisory Board of CI-ADMU; Fr. Jose Maria Cruz, S.J, Vice President of ADMU; Dr. Ellen Palanca, Director of CI-ADMU; Ms. Liu Xiaofang, Chinese Director of CI-ADMU; Fr. Aristotle DY, S.J, Deputy Director of CI-ADMU and Principal of Xavier School; Mr. Gabriel Mallillin, Principal of Ateneo de Manila High School; The SYSU attendees included Prof. Yan Guangmei, Vice President of SYSU and Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of CI-ADMU; Prof. Zhou Xiaobing, Dean of School of Chinese as a Second Language; Prof. Wen Wushao, Executive Deputy Director of Office of Confucius Institutes.
At the meeting, Dr. Ellen Palanca, Director of CI-ADMU, delivered the 2013 annual work report and introduced the endeavor and achievement of CI-ADMU in promoting Chinese language and culture in 2013. Members of the Advisory Board discussed the issues arising in the running of CI-ADMU and articulated their opinions. They also expressed their best wishes for the long-term development of CI-ADMU and hoped to expand in-depth cooperation between the two universities in other fields through the bridge of the Confucius Institute.
After the meeting, President Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin and Vice President Yan Guangmei exchanged souvenirs.
Besides, Prof. Xiao Haipeng, Director of Dean’s Office of Medical Education, met with the guests and discussed possible cooperation in medical education and student exchange. The guests also invited Director Xiao Haipeng to pay a visit to ADMU to promote medical cooperation between the two universities.
The Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University (CI-ADMU) is the first Confucius Institute co-founded by SYSU and an overseas university. It was formally established on October 30, 2006. Ateneo de Manila University is one of the top three universities in the Philippines, and has student exchange programs with School of International Studies and Lingnan College of SYSU.
