Dr. Andres Aluja first introduced the efforts and achievements in Chinese language teaching and promotion of Chinese culture since CI-UADY was established. He hoped that based on the Confucius Institute, the two universities can expand their cooperation in other fields.

Vice President Zhu Xiping acknowledged the efforts and achievements of CI-UADY since its establishment. He emphasized that SYSU values its partnership with UADY, and in addition to running the Confucius Institute and building student exchange platform, the two universities can further their cooperation in medicine, biology and other academic fields.

After the meeting, the guests respectively met with representatives from School of International Studies and Lingnan College to negotiate the student exchange program. The two sides agreed to sign a cooperation agreement at school level as soon as possible to promote the implementation of the program.

The two directors also paid a visit to School of Chinese as a Second Language and delivered two lectures entitled “Career Planning in the Background of Chinese International Education” and “Higher Education in Mexico and Cross-Cultural Comparison”, which were well received by the teachers and students. They also conducted an interview for volunteer Chinese teacher candidates who will be sent to the Confucius Institute.

The Confucius Institute at Autonomous University of Yucatan (CI-UADY) in Mexico was jointly established by SYSU and Autonomous University of Yucatan. It officially opened in September 2007, and is the second Confucius Institute established by SYSU. Since it was opened, SYSU has sent two Chinese directors, two Chinese teachers and ten student volunteers to undertake the teaching task in the Confucius Institute.
