On December 19, the 6th Annual Joint Meeting of the SYSU-CUHK Cooperation and Development Committee was held in K. K. Leung Hall on South Campus of SYSU. Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU, representatives in charge of the cooperative fields and relevant functional departments, a total of more than 30 people attended the meeting.

Vice President Zhu Xiping extended his warm welcome to the professors from CUHK. He pointed out that during the past five years the cooperation between the two universities has expanded and deepened with all those constantly emerging joint outcomes. The strategic cooperative mechanism between SYSU and CUHK proves to be effective and it is leading the two universities to reach the initial expected goals.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Fok Tai-fai also expressed his hope during this meeting, in which the two universities should grasp the present opportunities and work together to explore new areas of cooperation.

At the meeting, representatives in charge of the cooperative fields reported on the current situation of their cooperation and their work plans for the next year, and held discussions on the problems and difficulties encountered in the process of cooperation.

Vice President Zhu Xiping and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Fok Tai-fai made closing remarks at the meeting. They both fully affirmed this year’s progress and gave guiding opinions on the mechanism and direction of cooperation and development for the next stage. The two sides plan to further explore how to better use this university-level platform of Cooperation and Development Committee to uplift the level and expand the areas of cooperation between the two universities.

The SYSU-CUHK Cooperation and Development Committee was established in 2007, and held the annual joint meeting in CUHK and SYSU in turn. It enables the cooperation between the two universities to become more orderly, practical and fruitful. This year, with the newly added collaborative research in mathematics, anthropology and urinary system tumors, the in-depth cooperation fields between SYSU and CUHK has increased to 14.
