President Xu Ningsheng said that SYSU puts emphasis on this collaboration and it is a milestone and important event for the international development of medical research in SYSU. The collaboration will construct a long-term communication platform for scientists and administrators from the two universities and lay a solid foundation for SYSU to set up a world-level medical research institute in the future.

Vice Dean Daniel E. Ford said that JHM also attaches great importance to this collaboration and SYSU is JHU’s only partner on clinical and translational medicine all over the globe. After a five-day course they find that SYSU has attracted lots of enthusiastic and talented young fellows who will probably become the main force for clinical and translational research.

Vice President Li Mengfeng announced the updating progress of SYSU-JHU collaboration and answered questions from news media with Vice Dean Daniel E. Ford.

An elaborate video before the formal meeting impressively showed the background, development and progress of the collaboration. A townhall meeting on ethical conduct of medical research was also held. Professor Holly Taylor and Vice Dean Daniel E. Ford gave lectures and communicated with the audience. Principles and ideas of research integrity and medical ethics were expressed and emphasized during the meeting.

Since its start in March this year, the SYSU-JHU collaborative program has been progressing well. In September, the International Joint Research Center for Translational Medicine at SYSU was authorized as a national base for international cooperation in science and technology by the Ministry of Science and Technology. As it goes deeper and wider, more and more substantive achievements in clinical research will come out from this cooperation.
