On the afternoon of October 11, SYSU held a meeting to summarize the publicity work of 2013 undergraduate admission on South Campus. Nearly fifty people attended the meeting, including persons in charge of admission publicity from various cities of Guangdong province and other provinces, as well as staff members of the Admission Office of SYSU. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
First, Wu Xiaofeng, Director of the Admission Office of SYSU, reported the work of undergraduate admission in 2013, analyzed the quality of students from different provinces through statistical comparisons, and summarized this year’s publicity work of undergraduate admission. Currently, SYSU has built a network for admission publicity. The Admission Office has intensified connection with the schools, functional departments, faculty and students at SYSU, and has expanded cooperation with the Ministry of Education, provincial admission offices, other universities and major media, to promote the University and its educational philosophy. The University organized dozens of renowned professors to give lectures in high schools in various provinces. More than three hundred faculty and staff members took part in the training. SYSU admission publicity teams attended over one hundred on-site consultation meetings and presentations in four hundred high schools in thirty-one provinces and regions, including Hong Kong and Macao. As volunteers, over three thousand current students visited nearly eight hundred high schools in thirty provinces during the winter vacation.
Then, the team leaders had heated discussions, introduced the work of their respective group and shared the issues concerning the students. They affirmed the work of the Admission Office in recent years, mentioned the difficulties they encountered in admission publicity, and put forward suggestions based on their experiences in practice.
Finally, Secretary Zheng Detao gave a speech. He affirmed the publicity work of undergraduate admission, thanked the persons in charge and made several suggestions. First, “first-rate universities need first-rate students”. We should attach greater importance to admission publicity and attract excellent students. Second, we should put emphasis on the top-level design of admission work, elaborate the system of admission publicity, and enhance connections with key high schools. Third, we should make full use of the media, highlight the characteristics of different disciplines and promote the University’s overall image. Fourth, we should strengthen team construction to build a relatively stable, high-quality publicity team consisting of teachers, publicity members, current students and alumni.
