On the morning of September 9, a delegation headed by Mr. Frédéric Lapeyrie, Director of Agreenium (the National Consortium for agriculture, food, animal health and the environment), visited SYSU. The visiting delegates also included Mr. Christian Hoste, Director of International Relations of Agreenium; Mr. Li Zheng, Chief Representative of French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), and Mr. Christophe Bonté, Attaché of Scientific and Educational Cooperation, Service for Science and Technology, French Consulate General in Guangzhou. Prof. Yan Guangmei, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests. SYSU participants also included Prof. Qiu Rongliang, Dean of School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Prof. Ling Wenhua, Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange (OICE).

Vice President Yan Guangmei extended his warm welcome to Mr. Frédéric Lapeyrie and they had a cordial talk with each other. Director Ling Wenhua introduced the basic situation of SYSU to the delegates, with a focus on international cooperation and exchange.
Mr. Frédéric Lapeyrie introduced the general situation of Agreenium, including members, research subjects, training programs and international cooperation of this Consortium. He said that Agreenium focused on scientific research, especially in the fields of agriculture, biological science, animal health and environment, and hoped that both sides could carry on collaborations in the related areas and work together for the development and the research of world agriculture and the global sustainable development.
During the meeting, the two sides also held preliminary discussions on possible fields of cooperation. On the basis of the existing collaboration with School of Environmental Science and Engineering, both parties expressed the hope of expanding the cooperation into the fields of biological science, food safety and food quality control. After the meeting, the delegation also visited School of Environmental Science and Engineering.
Background Information:
Agreenium, the National Consortium for agriculture, food, animal health and the environment of France, was created by decree of 10th May 2009 by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. This Consortium consists of two scientific research institutes and six higher education institutes, with the aim of establishing and internationalizing the comprehensive agronomic and veterinary research and higher education system. At present, SYSU and Agreenium have conducted collaborations on academic exchanges, scholar visits, joint collaboration of laboratories and international cooperation platform, joint application of Sino-French cooperation programs and joint programs of students.
