Department of Disease Control of Ministry of Public Health of Thailand Visited SYSU

On the morning of August 12, Dr. Porntep Siriwanarangsun, Director-General of Department of Disease Control (DDC), Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, led a 9-person delegation to visit SYSU. Professor Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests. Professor Ling Wenhua, Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange; Professor Huang Min, Dean of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Professor Chen Wen, Deputy Dean of School of Public Health; and Mr. Fan Ruiquan, Deputy Director of Office of Medical Science, attended the meeting.

Vice President Wei Minghai warmly welcomed the group led by Dr. Porntep Siriwanarangsun and introduced the development of SYSU’s medical sciences in detail. Dr. Porntep Siriwanarangsun introduced the cooperation between DDC and Guangdong and hoped to have deeper cooperation with SYSU in the fields of epidemiology training, occupational disease prevention, etc.

On behalf of SYSU, Vice President Wei Minghai signed the Technical Exchange Agreement with DDC Director-General Dr. Porntep Siriwanarangsun. According to the agreement, both sides will send staff to conduct exchange and cooperation in the fields of infectious diseases, epidemic diseases and AIDS, etc.

The delegation also held talks with representatives of Zhongshan School of Medicine, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health and Office of Medical Science on the specific cooperation in the next step and the two sides reached consensus in many aspects.

DDC is a subsidiary of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand and is in charge of promoting international and domestic cooperation in disease surveillance, prevention and control, disseminating the knowledge of health and guaranteeing the smooth operation of the disease prevention and control system.
