On the afternoon of May 29, the plaque granting ceremony of Guangdong Local Legislation Research Evaluation and Consultation Service Base was held in the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress. Huang Longyun, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress, granted the plaques to representatives from five universities respectively. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, attended the ceremony.

In order for universities to play a more active role in legislation, to promote scientific and democratic legislation and to provide intellectual support and professional consultation for local legislation, the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress cooperated with Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Jinan University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Guangzhou University to build the Base to conduct survey, research, evaluation and consultation on local legislation.
After the plaque granting ceremony, the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress held a discussion meeting. Secretary Zheng Detao said that, this cooperation shows that the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress attaches great importance to the mechanism and procedure of legislation. Sun Yat-sen University will play the leading role according to the work deployment of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress. At the meeting, the five universities also reached initial consensus over the formulation of articles, organizational structure and work schedule of the Base.
