On May 21 and 22, Zhu Xiaodan, Governor of Guangdong Province, led persons in charge of relevant provincial departments to conduct survey and research at Institute of Dongguan-Sun Yat-sen University and Guangzhou Supercomputing Center (GSC). He was accompanied by Chen Jianhua, Mayor of Guangzhou; Xu Jianhua, Secretary of the CPC Dongguan Municipal Committee; Zhang Ke, Vice Mayor of Dongguan; Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; and Xia Lianghui, Assistant President of SYSU.
On the afternoon of May 21, Governor Zhu Xiaodan led persons in charge of relevant provincial departments including General Office of Guangdong People's Government, Development and Reform Commission, Economic and Information Commission, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Finance, to conduct survey and research at Institute of Dongguan-Sun Yat-sen University and to carry out a special inspection of the progress of the major project of Guangdong electric vehicle undertaken by the research institute.
Persons in charge of the research institute reported the work progress and relevant achievements of the innovation and industrialization of new lightweight pure electric vehicle. Governor Zhu Xiaodan approved the significant breakthroughs in core technologies, and pointed out that we should offer continuing support for the development of electric vehicle industry. He hoped that the industrialization of the electric vehicle developed by the research institute would “walk with short quick steps”.
On the morning of May 22, Governor Zhu Xiaodan led persons in charge of relevant departments to conduct survey and research of the construction of Guangzhou Supercomputing Center on East Campus of SYSU.
Governor Zhu Xiaodan got a detailed understanding of the application prospect of GSC, the work carried out by different construction units, the research and development progress of the supercomputing host system, and the construction scheduling of the GSC building. He also visited the pilot plant of GSC and the supercomputing application display. He was satisfied with the overall construction progress of GSC, and said that we should further promote supercomputing applications. He hoped that SYSU would give full play to its advantages in disciplines, scientific research and talents, and provide talent and technical support for the construction of GSC and the promotion of supercomputing applications.
According to the current construction scheduling of the GSC building and the research and development progress of the host system, the civil work of the GSC building is expected to be completed at the end of June this year, and the first phase of Tianhe-2 system is expected to enter the GSC building at SYSU in October this year.
