SYSU signs a MOU with the University of Waikato

On April 8, witnessed by Steven Joyce, Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, New Zealand, Sun Yat-sen University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Waikato in Guangzhou. The MOU was signed by Professor Wei Minghai, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University and Professor Roy Crawford, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waikato. Xu Honggang, Deputy Dean of School of Tourism Management, and Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange also attended the signing ceremony.

The two universities agreed to pursue academic freedom, excellent education and international cooperation, enhance exchanges in educational and cultural affairs, share educational and cultural resources in the fields of higher education, research and cultural exchange, and provide students, faculty and staff with opportunities of collaboration on education and research.

On the same day, the School of Tourism Management of Sun Yat-sen University and the Waikato Management School of the University of Waikato signed a letter of intent. Both sides agreed to explore potential opportunities for research and teaching collaborations, especially the joint construction of a China-New Zealand research center for tourism management.

The University of Waikato was founded in 1964. It is one of the eight public universities sponsored by the New Zealand government. The University of Waikato has collaborations with the Lingnan College and the School of Tourism Management of SYSU in teacher communication and student exchange, etc. It also has a joint undergraduate program with the International Business School of SYSU.
