At the beginning of the new semester, the SYSU 2013 Spring Work Conference is held on South Campus today. The one and a half day conference will make arrangements for the work of the University in 2013. Secretary Zheng Detao and President Xu Ningsheng preside over the conference.

Secretary Zheng Detao delivers a keynote speech entitled “On the New Starting Point, Solidly Promote the Scientific Development of the University”, in which he puts forward current opportunities and challenges and points out the direction and requirement for future work of the University.

President Xu Ningsheng clarifies the tasks in 2013 from three aspects: situation and requirement, way of thinking and administrative work arrangement, depicting a blueprint for future development of the University in a comprehensive and detailed way.

Deputy secretaries, vice presidents and assistant presidents deliver thematic speeches respectively. They make plans for the work they are in charge of, and clarify objectives and priorities. On February 22, group discussions will be held for the humanities, science and engineering, and medical sciences respectively. Attendants will have in-depth discussions on discipline construction, personnel and talent work, scientific research, teaching, etc.

The conference also sets up a session of responding upon request with the aim to further learn about the opinions and needs of schools (departments directly under the university) and affiliated units on important issues in the reform and development of the University as well as issues closely related to the interest of students, faculty and staff; establish a mechanism of responding and communicating; and actively explore approaches and strategies of solving real issues of the University.

All university leaders, assistant presidents, secretaries of second-level Party Committees, persons in charge of functional departments, schools and departments directly under the university, units directly under the university, affiliated units, logistics group and industry group attend the conference.
