On December 24th, the Award Ceremony of 2012 Guangdong Pupils Poetry Festival was held in K.K. Leung Hall of SYSU. 1,300 children and their parents, teachers and distinguished guests celebrated the poetry carnival together. Lin Shaochun, Deputy Governor of Guangdong Province; Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Gu Zuoyi, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee; Luo Weiqi, Director General of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province; Xie Mian, Shu Ting and Luo Ying, well-known poets; Liao Hongqiu, Chairman of the Writers Association of Guangdong Province; Yang Xingfeng, Director of the Administrative Committee of Nanfang Media Group and President of Nanfang Daily; Zhang Dongming, Editor-in-Chief of Nanfang Media Group and Editor-in-Chief of Nanfang Daily, attended the ceremony and presented awards to children.

In the interaction with the children on the stage, Deputy Governor Lin Shaochun said, “The pupils poetry festival has been held for three consecutive years. It is well organized and will be held again next year. You are always welcome to join the festival!” He said he was glad to see that the children could observe and think about the world with innocent and pure eyes. They expressed their thoughts, feelings and dreams in concise and precise poems, showing amazing imagination and creativity.

The award ceremony of the poetry festival was hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, undertaken by Nanfang Media Group, the Writers Association of Guangdong Province, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong Academy of Education and Guangdong Company of China Mobile, and co-organized by Foshan TV and Sky City Children’s Creative Community.

It is learned that the contributions to the contest this year exceed 35,000, and the contestants are from various provinces and cities. It is the first time for pupils from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to take part in the contest. Shikan (Poetry Monthly), Chinese New Poem Yearbook and Shilin (Poetry Forest) have published the works of the little poets. The excellent poems will also be published in People’s Literature.

On that day, the “Helping Children Create Music” children’s poetry and music public welfare program jointly sponsored by Sky City Children’s Creative Community and YYQ Music Circle was launched. At present, 10 musicians from Guangdong Pop Music Association have set 10 excellent poems by pupils to music. Next, relying on the pupils poetry festival, the “Helping Children Create Music” program plans to make 100 popular songs for children in modern era within five years.
