BEIJING, Dec 20 (People’s Daily) – The Counsellors’ Office of the State Council and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality and Sun Yat-sen University in Beijing today. They will jointly hold the “New City•Guangzhou Forum” to build an international academic communication platform and explore a scientific way of urbanization and urban development.

According to the agreement, the “New City • Guangzhou Forum” will be held in Guangzhou annually, aiming at focusing on major challenges and problems faced by urban development with global visions, strategic perspectives and humanistic feelings. It is to invite renowned celebrities, scholars, artists both at home and abroad to explore the law of urban growth and development from the aspects of economic development, social construction, cultural prosperity and ecological civilization, and learn from the experience of the world’s advanced cities so as to push forward China’s theoretical study and practical innovation in urban development and provide intellectual support and theoretical reference.

Chen Jinyu, Director of the Counsellors’ Office of the State Council, expressed that the Counsellors’ Office of the State Council will resort to joint research and the “New City•Guangzhou Forum” to pay more attention to urbanization issues, further enhance the study of scientific urban development, and provide consultation and reference for government decision-making.
