Deputy Governor Lin Shaochun shared his observations with the attendees on the new round of reform of medical and public health system and put forward four requirements on the reform and construction of public hospitals. First, public hospitals should actively participate in healthcare reform and remove the management and operation patterns that cannot meet the demands of social development. At the same time, public hospitals need to break the practice of “supporting hospitals by charging high drug prices” and explore new compensation mechanism from the aspects of government, medical insurance and hospital management to make sure that the burden on ordinary people to see a doctor won’t be increased while the income of the hospitals won’t be reduced. Second, on the basis of providing basic medical services, public hospitals should put in greater efforts to improve medical technologies, attach importance to research and construction of key specialties, and try their best to treat serious illnesses and difficult and complicated cases that cannot be treated by hospitals at the basic level. Third, public hospitals should pay much attention to information construction in all aspects of hospital management in accordance with the requirements of modern hospitals. Fourth, public hospitals should promote international exchange and cooperation, make full use of its favorable geographical location of being adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, and enhance exchange and cooperation with international research institutions to improve their comprehensive strength.
On behalf of the University, Secretary Zheng Detao extended warm welcome to Deputy Governor Lin Shaochun for conducting survey and research in the affiliated hospitals, and expressed gratitude to Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government for providing care and support to SYSU and its affiliated hospitals over the years. He asked all affiliated hospitals to make continuous efforts in high-quality talent cultivation, high-level scientific research output and high-level medical services according to the requirements of Deputy Governor Lin Shaochun, and make greater contributions to health care in Guangdong Province.
