Mr. David Renato Nájera Rivas, Consul-General of the Consulate General of the United Mexican States in Guangzhou, Visited SYSU

On the morning of November 21st, Mr. David Renato Nájera Rivas, Consul-General of the Consulate General of the United Mexican States in Guangzhou, and Mr. José Cárdenas, Consul of the Consulate General of United Mexican States in Guangzhou and two entourages paid a visit to SYSU. President Xu Ningsheng met with the guests, accompanied by Cheng Huanwen, Director of Sun Yat-sen University Libraries, Zhou Chun, Deputy Director of Sun Yat-sen University Libraries, and Hao Yajuan, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange.

President Xu Ningsheng expressed a warm welcome to Mr. David Renato Nájera Rivas and thanked him for donating books to SYSU. He pointed out that, with the deepening of exchanges between the two countries, more and more Chinese students choose to study Spanish. In 2009 the School of International Studies at SYSU began to offer Spanish undergraduate program, which was aimed to train high-quality Spanish expertise with good language skills and strong comprehensive abilities to meet the urgent social need. President Xu Ningsheng also introduced the development of the Confucius Institute at Autonomous University of Yucatan in Mexico, a partner university of SYSU.

Mr. David Renato Nájera Rivas hoped to further enhance the understanding between the two sides through dialogues and collaborations. Both with a long history and cultural tradition, China and Mexico should communicate and cooperate more frequently to deepen the mutual understanding between the people of the two countries. Mr. David Renato Nájera Rivas also cordially invited the SYSU delegation to pay a visit to the universities in Mexico.

On behalf of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mr. David Renato Nájera Rivas donated 437 Spanish books covering culture, history, literature, sciences and etc. These books would contribute to meeting the demands of SYSU teachers and students to learn and study Mexican history, culture, language, society and etc., and further promoting the cultural exchanges and collaborations between China and Mexico.

On behalf of Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Cheng Huanwen, Director of Sun Yat-sen University Libraries, awarded an Appreciation Certificate to the Consulate General of the United Mexican States in Guangzhou, to express gratitude for its efforts in promoting bilateral cooperation. That day, Mr. David Renato Nájera Rivas also visited the Library on South Campus, accompanied by Professor Cheng Huangwen.
