SYSU Signed Global Network Partnership Agreement with University of Cologne

On the morning of November 1st, the Signing Ceremony of Global Network Partnership Agreement between  the University of Cologne and Sun Yat-sen University was held in the VIP Lounge of Zhongshan Building. YAN Guangmei, Vice President of SYSU and Michael Bollig, Pro-Rector of the University of Cologne signed the agreement on behalf of each side respectively.

The partnership agreement clearly states that SYSU and the University of Cologne will establish a Global Network Partnership by regarding each other as an important partner and giving priority to the cooperation projects between the two sides. Based on a long period of successful collaborations, the two sides will improve the structure and mode of cooperation to achieve sustained development of academic collaborations in teaching and research, such as the exchange of faculty members, administrative staff and students as well as joint research, joint teaching projects and joint Ph.D. programs. Both sides will provide support for the implementation of the cooperation projects and seek supports from third-party funds of various forms.

Before the signing ceremony, Vice President YAN Guangmei and Pro-Rector Michael Bollig had a friendly talk. They spoke highly of the cooperation achievements in the past years and agreed to expand the areas of cooperation such as life sciences on the basis of further strengthening the existing collaborations in geography, philosophy, language and culture, literature and etc. In addition, both sides will continue to promote student exchanges, especially to attract more German students to study in SYSU, and explore new forms of collaborations such as conducting summer school projects and establishing double degree programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

HUANG Guowen, Dean of the School of International Studies, XUE Desheng, Vice Dean of the School of Geography and Planning, Professor ZHANG Qiang from the School of Geography and Planning, Professor WANG Beibei, Head of the German Department of School of Foreign Languages, and Xu Yao, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, attended the meeting and witnessed the signing ceremony.

After the signing ceremony, Pro-Rector Michael Bollig and his entourage visited the School of Geography and Planning and continued discussing the next steps of cooperation. In the afternoon, Pro-Rector Michael Bollig gave a lecture entitled “Theoretical Movements in German Anthropology since 1990” in Martin Hall.
