IUPUI Delegation Visited SYSU

From October 29th to November 2nd, a 19-member delegation led by Professor Gil Latz, Vice President of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), visited SYSU. Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President CHEN Chunsheng and Vice President YAN Guangmei met with the guests respectively on October 31st and November 1st. The two sides exchanged their opinions about the joint undergraduate program and expressed the hope of launching a joint graduate program and promoting communication and cooperation among faculties in the two universities. They had a heated discussion on how to develop the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis, how to set up a Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at SYSU, and how to deepen cooperation in such fields as medical sciences, philanthropy, etc. They reached many consensuses in the discussion.

The IUPUI delegation mainly consists of heads and professors of the university’s IU School of Liberal Arts, IU Kelley School of Business, IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Purdue School of Science, IU School of Informatics and Computing, Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IU School of Social Work, IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law, IU School of Physical Education & Tourism Mgmt and the Department of Earth Sciences along with directors of the International Affairs Office and the Confucius Institute. Members of the delegation talked with professors and leaders from the Network and Information Technology Center, School of Management, School of Government, School of Engineering, School of Physics and Engineering, School of Software, School of Information Science and Technology, School of Sociology and Anthropology, School of Tourism and Management, the Department of Earth Science and Institut Franco-Chinois de l’Energre Nucleaire at Sun Yat-sen University. Through the talks both sides strengthened communication and mutual understanding.
During the visit, SYSU signed a memorandum of understanding with CourseNetworking LLC whose interactive platform for online courses and study will serve as an avenue for SYSU to communicate and cooperate with IUPUI.
The delegation also visited Hospital of Stomatology (Affiliated), Guanghua School of Stomatology and Zhuahai Campus.
CourseNetworking LLC was jointly founded by Professor Ali Jafari and Indiana University in July 2011 and was put into operation on March 19th, 2012. With its headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, CourseNetworking LLC is an academic social networking site that connects teachers and students.
