GUANGZHOU, Nov. 10, (Xinhua) --- On November 10, Sun Yat-sen University launched the 90th anniversary celebrations on its Alumni Reunion Day. At the launching ceremony, seated on the rostrum were senior professors from the schools and departments at SYSU instead of administrative leaders. Nearly 2,000 alumni in SYSU academicals participated in a “special degree ceremony” to celebrate their Alma Mater’s birthday.

It is learned that in 2008 Sun Yat-sen University officially announced its Alumni Reunion Day to be the second Saturday in November. On that day the University invites alumni from home and abroad to attend the anniversary celebrations and holds special events for the alumni who were enrolled in SYSU or graduated from SYSU 10 (or 20, 30...) years ago. This year marks the 30th anniversary of graduation for class of 1977&1978. The University held a “special degree ceremony” similar to the “degree granting ceremony” for current graduates, enabling them to reexperience the solemnity and excitement when they graduated from their Alma Mater thirty years ago.

November 12 of 2014 will be the 90th anniversary of SYSU, which was founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. On the Alumni Reunion Day of Nov. 10, 2012, XU Ningsheng, President of Sun Yat-sen University, Professor XIA Shuzhang, “Father of MPA in China”, and CHEN Xiaoqi, renowned songwriter representing the alumni, launched the 90th anniversary celebrations of Sun Yat-sen University. Starting from this day, SYSU will hold a series of celebration events.
