At the beginning of the meeting, on behalf of the provincial government, Xiao Zhiheng, Executive Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, expressed his cordial greetings to and highest respect for postdoctoral researchers who have made positive contribution to the development, transformation and upgrading of high and new technology in Guangdong. He also thanked relevant ministries and universities including Sun Yat-sen University and social circles for their substantial support for Guangdong's postdoctoral work. Xiao Zhiheng pointed out that China is currently accelerating the transformation of economic development mode, attaching great importance to the training and use of high-level talents and making vigorous efforts to cultivate and develop social organizations. Under such circumstance, postdoctoral researchers and postdoctoral associations are confronted with a significant historic opportunity and broad development space. He hoped that postdoctoral researchers in Guangdong, a promising land of reform and opening-up, will live up to the people's expectations, scale the heights and create glorious achievements.

Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, expressed gratitude to The CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Guangdong Provincial People's Government, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and China Postdoctoral Science Foundation for their long-lasting concern and support for SYSU. He pointed out that Guangdong Postdoctoral Association is of great importance to the promotion of postdoctoral work in Guangdong and it has also built a good platform for the exchange and communication between postdoctoral fellows. In the next step, SYSU will focus on the needs of our country and Guangdong, further increase input, improve the quality of postdoctoral education and open a new chapter in the development of the postdoctoral cause.

Liu Lianjun, Deputy Director of the Office of National Postdoctoral Administrative Committee, made a special report on how to better guide postdoctoral fellows to serve for scientific and technological innovation. Chen Ying, Director of the Funding Department of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, introduced the main points of applying for general programs, special programs, other national science foundation projects and interacted with post doctoral fellows present at the meeting. Wang Yulong, Deputy Director of the Division of Social Development and Basic Research of Guangdong Science & Technology Department, introduced experience in applying for science and technology foundation projects.

At the meeting the members listened to the work report made by the president of the 5th Guangdong Postdoctoral Association and passed the decision on the 6th Guangdong Postdoctoral Association. Prof. Liu Peiqing in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at SYSU was appointed President of Guangdong Postdoctoral Association.
