On the morning of October 25th,Professor Pratibha Varma-Nelson, Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), visited SYSU. Li Wenjun, Assistant President had a cordial talk with Professor Varma-Nelson in the VIP Lounge of Zhongshan Building. Chen Huagui, Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department, Chen Hui, Deputy Director of the University Dean’s Office, and Xu Yao, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange were present at the meeting.

Assistant President Li Wenjun extended a warm welcome to Professor Varma-Nelson and gave a brief introduction to SYSU and its plan to build a Center for the Development of Teaching Faculty. He said that IUPUI had a lot in common with SYSU and hoped that CTL would offer support for the construction of the future center. Professor Varma-Nelson gave a detailed introduction to CTL, highlighting its aims, operation patterns, work environment, personnel constitution, available support and programs. She agreed on future cooperation and welcomed SYSU delegations to visit CTL.
IUPUI is an urban campus of Indiana University and Purdue University with acknowledged strength in medical sciences, business and engineering. In 2005, SYSU and IUPUI established a cooperative relationship. The Confucius Institute in Indianapolis was set up in 2007 and has served as a catalyst to deepen the exchange and collaboration between the two universities.
The CTL at IUPUI was established in 1995. Through a wide array of programs, events and services, CTL supports enhancement of teaching and learning. Since 2008, Professor Pratibha Varma-Nelson has been the Executive Director of CTL and a professor in the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology at IUPUI.
