On October 23, SYSU President Xu Ningsheng visited Jieyang to negotiate cooperation between Sun Yat-Sen University and Jieyang City with Chen Lüping, Secretary of the CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Jieyang Municipal People’s Congress. He said that Jieyang is standing on a new starting point of development and focusing on the core task of building Jieyang into a development pole of East Guangdong and a new society of well-being. He further pointed out that Jieyang has also switched on the engines of airport economy and harbor economy and has put great effort to improve the social environment and administrative environment. Sun Yat-Sen University is one of the leading universities in China with superior conditions and abundant achievements in scientific research. In the critical period of leap-forward development to catch up from behind, Jieyang longs for the support of Sun Yat-Sen University in providing talent and technology. Secretary Chen Lüping looks forward to greater effort from both sides in promoting strategic cooperation so as to develop together for mutual benefits.

President Xu Ningsheng thinks highly of Jieyang’s rapid economic and social development, which is sound and energetic. Especially the airport economy and harbor economy with huge potential have played the role of an engine for the development of East Guangdong. President Xu said that SYSU is willing to and has an unshirkable duty to participate in the economic and social development of Jieyang. SYSU will further practice the idea of running school openly, bring its multidisciplinary advantage into full play so as to serve Guangdong in a wider range and on a deeper level, support Jieyang and develop together, and make greater contribution to the scientific development of Guangdong.
