On the morning of October 24, Mr. Jean-François BALAUDÉ, President of Université Ouest Paris Nanterre La Défence (Paris West University Nanterre La Défense) led a 5-member delegation to visit Sun Yat-sen University. Members of the delegation include Mr. Augustin F.C.HOLL, Vice President for international relations, Ms. Patricia Mauclair, Manager of International Relations Office, Mr. Roger Darrobers, Professor of Chinese Language and Culture, and Ms Shuyan HAN-BENOIT, China Program Officer of International Relations Office. Executive Vice President Xu Jiarui met with the delegation in the VIP Lounge of Zhongshan Building.

Executive Vice President Xu Jiarui introduced the general situation of SYSU including its history, teaching, scientific research and international cooperation, particularly the cooperation between SYSU and French higher institutions. He said that with the visit of President Jean-François BALAUDÉ and his delegation, SYSU hoped to build collaborative relationship between the two universities. President Jean-François BALAUDÉ introduced the history, faculty and students, teaching and research, academic disciplines and international cooperation of Paris West University Nanterre La Défense, especially its cooperation with Chinese universities. The two sides warmly discussed possible collaboration in the future and agreed with consensus to further strengthen communication and carry out collaborative projects of student exchange and scholar communication in the areas of common interest. The two universities reached a preliminary intention to start cooperation in some of their preponderant disciplines such as law, economics, humanities and social sciences, particularly archaeology and philosophy.
After the meeting, the delegation also visited the Department of Anthropology at SYSU to know more about relevant disciplines and discuss possible modes of cooperation.
