President Xu Ningsheng Led SYSU Delegation to Attend the 2nd Shan Hai Forum

From October 8 to 10, President Xu Ningsheng led the SYSU delegation to attend the 2nd Shan Hai Forum in Xiamen University. Zhu Chongshi, President of Xiamen University, Hung-Duen Yang, President of Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung, nearly one hundred specialists and scholars including twenty-one professors of SYSU, attended the grand gathering.

At the opening ceremony, President Xu Ningsheng positively commented on the Shan Hai Forum. He pointed out that in an “open, tolerant and cooperative” era, economic globalization will surely bring about educational globalization. The Shan Hai Forum provides a great academic communication platform for the specialists and scholars of the three universities. He hoped that this forum will facilitate the common academic progress of the three universities. President Xu also sent his warm invitation to the guests and welcomed them to attend the 3rd Shan Hai Forum to be held in SYSU next year.
The forum specially invited Professor Yi Zhongtian at Xiamen University to make a speech entitled “New Shan Hai Jing: the Chinese Outlook on the World”.
During the forum, scholars from the three universities who specialize in the seven fields of marine environment, economy and management, energy materials chemistry, physics and energy, biomedicine, Taiwan studies and education studies, held group meetings to share their latest research achievements and discuss collaborations.
The Shan Hai Forum is an academic forum co-initiated by Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung, Xiamen University and Sun Yat-sen University, and is hosted by the three universities in turn annually. The First Shan Hai Forum was held in Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung in December, 2011. In the second half of next year, SYSU is going to host the 3rd Shan Hai Forum.
