The Launch Ceremony of The Collected Works of Huang Huanqiu & the Unveiling Ceremony of the Bronze Statue of Huang Huanqiu Held in Sun Yat-sen University

The life of Comrade Huang Huanqiu was closely tied to education, educational practice and Sun Yat-sen University. From 1933 when he entered SYSU as a student till the last days of his life, he studied and worked in SYSU for over 50 years, during which he served in leadership positions for decades, writing a brilliant page in the history of Sun Yat-sen University. A special fund in memory of Comrade Huang Huanqiu has been set up and has received warm responses from alumni. SYSU Alumni Association in Foshan, SYSU Alumni Association in Hong Kong and 11 alumni associations that took part in the donation of the “university motto (stone inscription)” have donated over 240,000 yuan in total, enabling the making of the bronze statue of Comrade Huang Huanqiu and the compilation of The Collected Works of Huang Huanqiu to be completed as scheduled.

The Collected Works of Huang Huanqiu contains nearly 80 pieces of his works in Sun Yat-sen University, including his thoughts and studies on university management, Party construction, teaching and research, which reflect his insights into higher education and management. The members of the compiling committee are experienced SYSU scholars, who have deep love and respect for Comrade Huang Huanqiu. They make every effort to achieve perfection although the book contains an enormous amount of material and covers a large time span. In the course of gathering material for the book, they receive full support from all parties involved to ensure the completeness of the material.

To show Huang Huanqiu’s elegant demeanor, Sun Yat-sen University invites professionals to design and make the bronze statue. Finally, it is set up on the fifth floor of the library of Sun Yat-sen University for people to pay tribute to him.

Comrade Huang Huanqiu devoted his life to Sun Yat-sen University and the people’s educational cause. In 1998, he won the first Huo Yingdong Award for his outstanding contributions to the educational cause. Among the five recipients, he was the only one from the education community, and he really deserved the award. Comrade Huang Huanqiu was deeply loved by the students, faculty and staff, and he was the amiable “Comrade Huanqiu” in our hearts.
