The 8th Teachers Congress and the 19th Labor Union Congress Held in Sun Yat-sen University

On the morning of September 25, the first session of the 8th Teachers Congress and the 19th Labor Union Congress of Sun Yat-sen University was held in K.K. Leung Hall on South Campus. More than 340 official representatives, specially invited representatives and non-voting delegates from 49 delegations attended the opening ceremony and the plenary session. Attendees include Chen Zhaoqing, Chairman of the Educational, Scientific, Cultural and Health Workers' Union of Guangdong Province; Zheng Detao, Xu Ningsheng, Xu Jiarui, Chen Chunsheng, Yan Guangmei, Li Ping, Yu Shiyou, Zhu Kongjun, Li Mengfeng, Xu Anlong and Wei Minghai, leaders of SYSU; Academician Ji Liangnian; Xia Lianghui, Bao Jigang, Cheng Huanwen, Li Shanmin and Li Wenjun, Assistants to the President. The conference was presided over by Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President.

Secretary Zheng Detao delivered the opening address on behalf of the university, fully affirming the efforts of Teachers Congress and Labor Union in the past five years, and putting forward requirements for the next five years. Chen Zhaoqing, Chairman of the Educational, Scientific, Cultural and Health Workers' Union of Guangdong Province, made a speech, in which he highly praised the work of SYSU Labor Union and Teachers Congress and expressed higher expectations for the future work. He also wished the conference a complete success.

The Chinese Educational, Scientific, Cultural, Health and Sports Workers' Union, the Educational, Scientific, Cultural and Health Workers' Union of Guangdong Province, the Educational Workers' Union of Guangzhou Municipality, as well as 39 labor unions of universities including Peking University and Tsinghua University, have sent congratulatory letters and messages. Zhou Yun, Executive Vice Chairman of SYSU Labor Union, read the congratulatory letter from the Chinese Educational, Scientific, Cultural, Health and Sports Workers' Union to all the representatives.

At the conference, representatives listened to the Report on the Work of Sun Yat-sen University delivered by Xu Ningsheng, President of SYSU, the Report on the Financial Work of Sun Yat-sen University delivered by Xu Jiarui, Executive Vice President, the Special Report on the Supervisory Policy of Education Funds and Regulations on the Use of Funds delivered by Li Shanmin, Assistant to the President, and the Report on the Work of the 7th Teachers Congress and the 18th Labor Union Congress by Yu Shiyou, Deputy Secretary and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Committee.

During the conference, each delegation will have a group discussion and offer opinions and advice on teaching, scientific research, medical service, administration and logistics services, as well as the commonly-concerned issues during the process of reform and development. Discussions of some delegations will be reported to representatives at the closing ceremony to be held on the afternoon of September 28th.
