Nobel Laureate Dr. Ferid Murad on Nitric Oxide and Health

On the afternoon of September 21, the 11th Nobel Masters Series Forum of Sun Yat-sen University was held in K.K. Leung Hall. The forum was co-sponsored by State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited and Yangcheng Evening News. Dr. Ferid Murad, the winner of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and the “Father of Viagra”, gave a lecture on “Nitric Oxide and Health”.

State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs specially sent a congratulatory letter, wishing Dr. Murad’s lecture on health a complete success. Yan Guangmei, Vice President of SYSU, attended the forum and made a welcome speech. Students from School of Pharmaceutical Science, School of Life Sciences, Zhongshan School of Medicine, staff of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited and readers of Yangcheng Evening News listened to the lecture.

Dr. Murad enthusiastically offered a feast of knowledge on health to over one thousand audience and there was continuous applause during the 2-hour lecture. Teachers and students present at the forum shared their ideas with Dr. Murad and discussed professional issues.

Ferid Murad, M.D., Ph.D., world-renowned scientist, is now a professor at George Washington University and Director of Guangzhou General Pharmaceutical Research Institute. Dr. Murad shared the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with his colleagues. He was elected as a member of the US National Academy of Sciences in 1996, and was elected as a foreign member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. Dr. Murad is known as the "Father of Viagra” in the field of medicine. He has conducted multiple applied research and development projects and has multiple patents on drugs. Dr. Murad is among the first celebrities and academic authorities to praise Chinese herbal medicine, a great treasure of China, internationally. He has done a lot of research in this area and hopes to develop modern herbal medicine that can enter the world market.
