On the morning of August 23, a group led by Wang Yuxue, Member of Party Leadership Group and Deputy Inspector of The Department of Education of Guangdong Province, and Hu Zhenmin, Deputy Inspector of The Department of Education of Guangdong Province came to SYSU to conduct survey and research on “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program” (hereinafter referred to as the Program). Lin Weichang, Deputy Mayor of Panyu District and Director of The Administrative Committee of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, and leaders of relevant departments took part in the survey and research.


The research seminar

Professor Yuzhi, head of the Program research group, presented a report on the progress of research and made various project suggestions on strengthening the implementation of the Program. Lin Weichang, Deputy Mayor of Panyu District and Director of The Administrative Committee of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, indicated that Panyu District will center on the construction of "International Innovation City” in Guangzhou Municipality, facilitate the implementation of the Program, and provide adequate support in various aspects including public service and institutional guarantee.

Secretary Zheng Detao pointed out that from the beginning the preparatory work of the Program has received high-level attention and full support from leaders at all levels of Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC, Guangzhou Municipal Government, The Department of Education of Guangdong Province, and Panyu District, as well as positive response from universities in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. Recently Wang Yang, Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC, wrote instructions on the preliminary report of the research group: “Guangzhou University City really needs to be perfected. I believe your participation will lay a more solid foundation for policy making”. Encouraged by this comment, SYSU and members of the research group know that they have a huge responsibility and will further cooperate with superior departments to carry out various specific work of the Program.

Wang Yuxue, Member of Party Leadership Group and Deputy Inspector of The Department of Education of Guangdong Province, expressed that at present, in order to promote the Program, units at the provincial, municipal and district level and universities in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center should reach consensus and complete the docking within universities, between university and society, between related departments at the provincial, municipal and district level. The Department of Education of Guangdong Province will further study the plans in the Program and provide substantial advice and suggestions to refine and improve the Program.
