Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia Dr.Hsiao-Wuen Hon Visited SYSU

On the afternoon of Apr.23rd, Dr.Hsiao-Wuen Hon, the Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia(MRA), Dr. Zhang Yongguang, the Principal Researcher (and an alumnus of School of Mathematics and Computational Science of SYSU), Dr. Wu Feng, the Research Manager and other three people visited our university. Chen Chunsheng, the Deputy Executive Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, Chao Hongyang, the Vice Dean of School of Software, Long Bo, the Vice Dean of Graduate School, and Xu Yao, the Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, met the guests.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their willingness to continue cooperating for mutual benefits and cultivating talents jointly. They also further discussed future cooperation and development. Chen Chunsheng, the Deputy Executive Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, stated his gratitude to MRA for its help and support to our university in these years. He hoped that SYSU and MRA could further their cooperation on scientific research, teaching and join-cultivation of talents; He especially hoped that MRA could spare attention and support to the Joint Engineering School which was under establishment by SYSU and Carnegie Mellon University. Managing Director Hsiao-Wuen Hon said that he himself was an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University and was happy to see his Alma Mater and SYSU was cooperating, and that he would like to promote subsequent cooperation the best he could.

That evening, Managing Director Hsiao-Wuen Hon delivered a lecture themed on “Calculation in the 21st Century: Extracting Models from Data”. Additionally, the other four researchers of MRA also delivered a series of academic lectures on Apr.25th to teachers and students in SYSU.
