Exhibit more than 1 million treasures of SYSU, plan to be completed in 2014, open to the public for free

Sun Yat-sen University plans to invest 500 to 600 million in building an “all-round” museum, in which will exhibit over 1 million "treasures” that SYSU has collected during its century-long history. School authorities said that the museum is located in the south gate of the South Campus, SYSU, next to Guangzhou Xin Gang Xi Road, and the gross area is estimated to be 66196 square meters. It’s a comprehensive museum consisting of the humanities, natural science, school history, Lingnan Culture and intangible cultures.

Over 1 million treasures in the dust-laden storeroom

Abundant in resources, SYSU Museum now has several categorized museums, including geological museum, anthropology museum, biology museum, medical science museum. During its century-long history, SYSU has gathered more than 1 million treasures, going ahead of other universities in terms of quantity and quality. But up to now, SYSU still doesn’t have a comprehensive museum; a large number of treasures are dispersed in poor-conditioned storerooms, faced with many difficulties, such as narrow space, poor conservation conditions, out-of-date fire protection and burglary protection technology.

SYSU welcomes people from all walks of life to invest in the museum, and now offers fixed donations with variable amount. For those who donate more than 1/3 the construction cost of one building, the building will be named after the contributor for commemoration. For those who donate the total cost of one exhibition hall, the exhibition hall will be named after the contributor for commemoration.
