University of Cologne, Germany Led A Delegation to Visit SYSU

On Oct 19, Axel Freimuth, President of University of Cologne, Germany, led a delegation of six people to visit Sun Yat-sen University. SYSU President Xu Ningsheng and Vice-president Wei Minghai received the delegation. Executive Dean of School of Management Li Zhongfei, School of Foreign Languages Party Secretary Xie Manhua, Associate Dean of School of Geography and Planning Xue Desheng and Vice President of Liberal Art College Cheng Mei Po attended the meeting.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the gratifying results achieved in the past decade in many areas. President Axel Freimuth’s visit was seen as an opportunity to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two universities. President Axel Freimuth expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pointed out that SYSU had been seen as strategic prior partner for international cooperation by University of Cologne, Germany. And he expected to further expand the cooperation areas of the two universities. After the talks, the two universities signed a memorandum of cooperation, and planned to draft a new cooperation agreement within six months to promote the implementation of the cooperation between the two sides.
During the visit, the delegation also visited and achieved further cooperation with the School of Geography and Planning, Liberal Arts College, School of Management and International R & D and the training base for Chinese language teaching materials.
University of Cologne, Germany was founded in 1388 and has a history of 600 years. It is a comprehensive university which dedicates to research and development. The school consists of six colleges (Management, Economics and Social Sciences, Law, Medicine, Arts and Humanities, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Humanities and Sciences, etc.) There are more than 40,000 students at school. University of Cologne, Germany has a high frequency of international cooperation with Sun Yat-sen University. The cooperation between both sides started in 2000. At present, University of Cologne, Germany cooperates with school of Geography and Planning, School of Foreign Languages, School of International Studies, Department of Philosophy, School of Management in students exchange, scholars exchange, joint researches and international conferences.
