th and 19
th, Managing Vice President of Carnegie Mellon University Kaim Wright, Vice President Daefuline, President of Engineering College Koestler and other three delegates visited Sun Yat-sen University. Secretary Zheng Detao and President Xu Ningsheng met with the guests. The two sides discussed profoundly the joint research as well as cooperation in running schools in areas including Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering and reached agreement on major issues concerning the cooperation. Vice President Li Mengfeng, Assistant of President Wei Minghai and staff from related offices and departments attended meetings in different stages. During the visit, Zhu Xiaodan, member of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor graciously received Managing Vice President Kaim Wright and his colleagues. Kaim Wright expressed his appreciation for the development Guangdong Province and Sun Yat-sen University have achieved in recent years. He also looked forward to the win-win benefits this cooperation would bring to both sides.

Carnegie Mellon University, the world’s leading academic institution, ranks highly in various fields and subjects around the globe according to 2010 US News and World Report. Graduate-level Computer Engineering tops the comprehensive ranking while Engineering comes at sixth and Electrical Engineering second. At undergraduate-level, Computer major enjoys the second spot , Engineering placed eighth and Computational major second.
