China and the UK: Partner for Growing TogetherJeremy Browne Visited Sun Yat-sen University and Gave a Keynote Speech

The Member of Parliament and Minister of Foreign and Commonwealth Office of UK Jeremy Browne came to Sun Yat-sen University on June 1st, taking the opportunity of visiting Guangdong Province. Mr. Browne gave a keynote speech on the topic of ‘China and UK: Partner for Growing Together’ to nearly one hundred teachers and students from School of Government, School of Foreign Language, School of Asia-Pacific Study and Ling Nan University.

The focus of Mr. Browne’s address lied on his feelings of this journey to Guangdong with the appreciation of China’s economic development and its increasing international status. He also encouraged more young British to come and work in China. During his speech, Mr. Browne mentioned that China and the UK are partners for growing together and there are innumerable great achievements of educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Therefore he motivated people of these two nations, especially for young people, to join in more communication and exchanges. At the end of the speech Mr. Browne answered ardently to the questions of students, among which were topics concerning the preparation of 2012 London Olympic Games and the plan to improve and utilize the facilities after the event as well as the relationship between European Union and China.

Jeremy Browned became one of the members of Parliament since May 2005 and was appointed as the Minister of Foreign and Commonwealth Office of UK on May 14th, 2010. He had taken various positions in the Liberal Democrats and one of them was being the speaker of Foreign Affairs for the Party.
