The Alumni Forum“Lawyers’ Road to Success - Face to Face with Partner of Global Top-level Law Firm Lawyer Jia Dianan”was Held

The alumni forum “Emotionally Tied with SYSU”, which was hosted by Alumni Association as well as School of Law and undertaken by Career Development Center, Student Union of School of Law and Office of Alumni Work, was held in moot court of School of Law on the afternoon of May 7th. The guest of the event was a alumnus of 1980 from School of Law (Department of Law) –Lawyer Jia Dianan, the partner and chief representative of Baker and McKenzie Law Firm in Beijing. Though it was raining heavily that day, the moot court was fully occupied, and many of audience were alumni of other years coming specifically for the speech upon the news. The forum, which was hosted by Deputy Secretary of School of Law, Mo Hua, enjoyed a heat passion.

As a member of the first group of alumni from School of Law, Jia Dianan had complicated feelings after being invited to the platform of Alma Mater 26 years later. He told affectionately about his times spent in Sun Yat-sen University, that though it was a tough moment under such dreadful conditions, with the selfless help of school and the teachers he still thought the four years’ life and study in Kangle Campus was the most memorable period in his life. It was also the strong professional foundation he laid in university that brought him great success in the future career.

In Q&A section, students raised questions concerning international law practice, the specialties of studying in law school of foreign countries, career choices and so on. All of the audiences have benefited a lot from Jia Dianan’s concise, humor and practical replies. At the end of the forum, the General Secretary of Alumni Association Xu Dongli awarded Jia with an honorary certificate and hope him would revisit SYSU frequently in the future for more exchanges with students here.
