American Academy of Arts and Sciences published the name list of its 212 newly selected academicians on April 19th. Five Chinese American scholars were in the list, including two mathematicians graduated from universities in Guangzhou: Professor Zhang Shouwu, from Mathematics Department of Columbia University, graduated from Sun Yat-sen University; Professor Hou Yizhao, from Applied and Computational Mathematics Department of California Institute of Technology, graduated from South China University of Technology.

On the evening of May 2nd at 10:30 p.m. (US local time 9:30 a.m.), Prof. Zhang Shouwu made an overseas call from his office in Columbia University to the journalist of Nanfang Metropolis Daily and received an exclusive interview.Memory towards Guangzhou Sun Yat-sen University was an inclusive university, and he was grateful to SYSU, said Zhang Shouwu.
