Mourn for the Victims in Yushu Earthquake
The deadly earthquake which occurred in Yushu QingHai on April 14th 2010 has killed hundreds of people, making thousands homeless. The official number of casualty is 2064 till April 22th. In response to this sudden catastrophe, our central government has sent militaries to the stricken region to rescue the victims as soon as possible. All the rescue teams are working day and night, racing against time. Our school has reacted promptly to this - to do everything beneficial to people in the disaster zone such as making donations, showing condolence and so on.
In the early morning of April 21th, 2010, we held a silent tribute out of the “gate of rainbow”, with lots of teachers and students attending. The ceremony began at exactly 7:25, when the presenter announced some details about this disaster and our compassion to the people who are still suffering. No muzak here because there is no electricity available. Instead, we sang the national anthem and watched the Five-Starred Red Flag rising to the top, giving it a solemn salute with eyes.
It was quite early that morning and the weather was sullen with intermittent drizzling rain. However, everybody arrived on the spot punctually. The silent salute lasted only minutes, but it seemed long - from that tragic day to this solemn spot, even toward future.
At the end of the ceremony, the representative showed our hope and fine expectation to the people in YuShu. We hope they will break away from the shadow of the cataclysm before long and acquire a brilliant future through our efforts.
