Secretary Zheng Detao and President Xu Ningsheng Heading to Provincial Department of Science and Technology for Discussing Cooperation Issues
On the morning of January 27th, Secretary Zheng Detao and President Xu Ningsheng headed to Provincial Department of Science and Technology and had an informal meeting with the director of Provincial Department of Science and Technology Mr. Li Xinghua. Some other relevant people of Provincial Department of Science and Technology or our university also attended the meeting, such as Vice President of Provincial Department of Science and Technology Mr. Zhang Ming, Vice President Zhong Xiaoming, Vice President Gong Guoping, Vice President Liu Wei, Deputy Inspector Liao Zhaolong, Deputy Inspector Liu Qingmao, the vice president of our university Professor Xu Long’an, assistant principal of our university Mr. Xia Huiliang and the director of Medical Office Liang Dan.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Xu Longan made a report to the leaders of Provincial Department of Science and Technology about the basic situation of "Eleventh Five-Year" science and technology work in our university and the working plan of "Twelfth Five-Year" science and technology work. In addition, Vice President Xu Long’an introduced the focal point of the science and technology work in our university in next stage from the following three aspects: building high-level scientific and technological innovation platform, founding high-level innovative team, constructing medical innovation platform.
President Xu Ningsheng pointed out that, Sun Yat-Sen University should be strict with itself with the world-class standard, tried all its effort to building a world-class academic community while the purpose for building this community is isolated with others, but making more contribution to the local social and economic development. In the process of accelerating transformation and upgrade, building a happy Guangdong, Guangdong has provided many opportunities for colleges and universities in Guangdong. Sun Yat-Sen University should seize these opportunities and integrate itself into the development of Guangdong with a position offering comprehensive service.
The director of Provincial Department of Science and Technology Mr. Li Xinghua expressed warm welcome and thanks to the arrival of the team led by Secretary Zheng Detao and President Xu Ningsheng. Director Li Xinghua has introduced the basic situation of science and technology work in Guangdong and described the focal points of Guangdong Province in next stage in detailed. Director Li Xinghua said that Sun Yat-Sen University is the flagship among all colleges and universities in Guangdong, and he hopes Sun Yat-Sen University would make greater contribution in the next developing stage of Guangdong, and play a more important role in cultivating Strategic and emerging industry professionals and promoting innovative approaches.
Secretary Zheng Detao congratulated about the achievements gained by Provincial Department of Science and Technology in recent years. He said that, at present, Guangdong Province has already formed the pattern which whole society pays attention to science and technology, set up a fairly perfect scientific and technological innovative system, created a favourable scientific and technological innovative mechanism. At the present era, scientific and technological innovation has become the important force for driving the transmission of economic developing patter in Guangdong, accelerating the transformation and upgrade. The development of Sun Yat-Sen University is benefit from the rapid development of Guangdong; as a result, Sun Yat-Sen University should do more for the social and economic development of Guangdong. From now on, Sun Yat-Sen University will further enhance its comprehensive service for Guangdong and further strengthen the combination between the discipline construction, scientific and technological innovation and talents cultivation in our university and the demands of social and economic development in Guangdong, making due contribution to constructing the happy Guangdong.
