Recently, Guangzhou Supercomputing Center (GSC) and the Pilot System Inaugurating Ceremony was held in Sun Yat-sen University, marking a new era for supercomputing center that emphasizes construction and practical use. The GSC will be built into a world-class supercomputing center before 2015, and it will serve as a powerful engine for the economic and social development in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province and even South China.

Guangzhou, National University of Defense Technology and Sun Yat-sen University, started to build the GSC at the end of 2011, and joined to construct the Pilot System earlier this year. The system adopts the technological framework of Tianhe-1 (a supercomputer constructed by National University of Defense Technology) and ranks among national tops in terms of calculating capacity. Next, related departments will launch professional supercomputing service in order to accelerate the cultivation and development of biological, medical treatment, health and other strategic emerging industries, to upgrade advanced manufacturing industries such as automobile and shipping and to promote high-end innovative resources and talents accumulation.
