On May 30, the Pilot System of Guangzhou Supercomputing Center (GZSC) officially started to operate on East Campus of Sun Yat-sen University, symbolizing that GZSC set foot in a new stage that equally focused on construction and application.

Guangdong Government, Guangzhou Government, National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in last November to cooperatively develop a high-efficient computer system and jointly construct GZSC. The agreement aimed to successfully develop the high-efficient computer system Tianhe II before 2015, as to build a world’s leading supercomputing center in Guangzhou.

At the beginning of this year, in order to facilitate earlier development of the application market of GZSC and quickly cultivate professional technical personnel to accumulate experience for the construction and operation of GZSC, Guangzhou Government, NUDT and SYSU cooperated with each other and prepared to build a pilot high-efficient computer system (Pilot System for short) in an appropriate scale. The system would provide a great platform to pre-meet the demands of all fields and promote the application for middle and large industries.
