2013 Key Middle School Principals Symposium held at SYSU

On December 5-6, the SYSU 2013 Key Middle School Principals Symposium was held on South Campus. Aimed at strengthening communication with key middle schools and attracting more excellent students to apply for SYSU, the symposium invited 50 principals and teachers from 45 middle schools in Shanghai and six provinces in East China.

Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Chen Chunsheng extended his warm welcome to the guests and delivered a keynote speech entitled "SYSU as I understand it". He told stories of SYSU and introduced the past and present of the University, emphasizing that “SYSU is a university with dreams”. Xu Xinzhong, Dean of Lingnan College, Zhang Zhian, Vice Dean of School of Communication and Design, and Wu Xiaofeng, Director of Undergraduate Admission Office, made a speech respectively on undergraduate education reform, school crisis management and media communication, and undergraduate admission. The guests had heated discussions with SYSU teachers on issues related to undergraduate admissions reform.

The guests paid a visit to North Campus and East Campus. On North Campus, they visited Medical Science Museum, Medical Specimen Museum and Medical Simulation Center to experience SYSU’s long tradition of medical education. On East Campus, Zhang Jun, Dean of School of Advanced Computing, introduced the prospects of information science from the aspects of talent cultivation and social demand. Zhou Fan, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Supercomputing Center, introduced Tianhe-2 supercomputer housed at SYSU, and its application in biology, medicine, biomedicine, materials science, environmental simulation, etc.
From the symposium and the visit, the guests learned more about SYSU’s history, tradition and disciplinary strengths. The beautiful campuses, close cooperation between different units of the University, and the clear weather in Guangzhou left a good impression on them. “In the short two days, the unique university spirit and culture of SYSU make me fall in love with it,” said Chen Shaoping, Principal of Yichun Middle School in Jiangxi province.
This event was organized with support from Publicity Department, Faculty of Medical Sciences, East Campus Administration, Office of Security, Lingnan College, School of Business, School of Communication and Design, Zhongshan School of Medicine, School of Advanced Computing, and Guangzhou Supercomputing Center.
