Gathering at SYSU 2014 Alumni New Year’s Concert

On the afternoon of December 14, the “Gathering at SYSU 2014 Alumni New Year’s Concert” — Jenaer Philharmonie Concert Tour in China was held in K.K. Leung Hall on South Campus. The Concert was hosted by SYSU Alumni Association and SYSU Education Development Foundation, and organized by SYSU Alumni Association of Germany. Li Ping, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, Executive Vice President of SYSU Alumni Association and Vice President of SYSU Education Development Foundation, attended and addressed the concert. Chen Shaobin, Assistant President of SYSU, Dr. Albrecht Schröter, Mayor of Jena, Mr. Frank Jauch, Deputy Mayor of Jena, and Dr. Wu Minzhi, President of SYSU Alumni Association of Germany, attended the concert. Nearly 1,500 SYSUers gathered together to enjoy the concert and celebrate the coming New Year.

Jenaer Philharmonie performing for SYSU alumni
 
On behalf of SYSU faculty and students, Deputy Secretary Li Ping extended her heartfelt thanks and best wishes to alumni and friends who have cared and supported SYSU’s development over the years. Meanwhile, she also thanked Jenaer Philharmonie for offering a music feast to SYSU alumni.

The concert started with the familiar melody of SYSU Anthem and the Cantonese folk song Rising Higher Step by Step. The German symphony orchestra also performed Ludwig van Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92. The Yellow River Cantata (Excerpt) by composer Xian Xinghai, a distinguished SYSU alumnus, pushed the atmosphere to its climax. Finally, the concert drew its curtain with Hallelujah Chorus.
