On the morning of July 8, the signing ceremony of Agreement on Further Deepening Strategic Cooperation between Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government and Sun Yat-sen University was held in Zhuhai. Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, and Long Guangyan, Vice Mayor of Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government, signed the agreement on behalf of the two sides.

Long Guangyan, Vice Mayor of Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government; Zhong Yijun, Director of Zhuhai Education Bureau; Cao Fengyun, Deputy Director of Zhuhai Education Bureau; Deng Weidong, Deputy Director of Zhuhai Science, Industry, Trade and Information Technology Bureau; Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU; Ma Jun, Assistant President and Director of Zhuhai Campus Administration; Hao Dengfeng, Secretary of Party & Administration Joint Office of Zhuhai Campus; Wu Wei, President of The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU, attended the event. The signing ceremony was chaired by Director of Zhuhai Education Bureau Zhong Yijun.

The agreement will deepen strategic cooperation between SYSU and Zhuhai government in five aspects: enhance talent cultivation and accelerate educational development; advance infrastructure construction and improve development conditions; make overall plans and build collaborative innovation area; improve city functions and promote city image; strengthen cooperation mechanism and ensure implementation of cooperative projects.

The agreement is a deepening and extension of the "Strategic Cooperation Agreement between Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government and Sun Yat-sen University" signed in 2012. Zhuhai government will support SYSU to build the east seaside area of Zhuhai Campus into a “collaborative innovation area”, which will incorporate educational training, interdisciplinary research and collaborative R&D, industry-university-research transformation, innovative enterprise incubation, public services and public facilities. SYSU will give full play to its strengths and make use of excellent resources to advance emerging disciplines, interdisciplinary development, international cooperation in running schools and industry-university-research collaborations, and serve for Zhuhai’s industrial development planning of high-end manufacturing, high-end services, high-tech industries, and characteristic marine economy and ecoagriculture.
