Prof. Michael Bollig, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of University of Cologne (UoC), visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) on October 31, 2014. Members of the UoC delegation also included Dr. Stefan Bildhauer, Head of International Office; Dr. Susanne Preuschoff, Coordinator for Cooperation with the Global South; Mr. Matthias Kirste, Responsible for Incoming Students, International Office; and Ms. Qiu Lan, Head of UoC Beijing Office. Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests, accompanied by Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange (OICE) of SYSU.

Prof. Zhu Xiping extended a warm welcome to Prof. Michael Bollig and affirmed the long-term friendly cooperation between SYSU and UoC. He said that SYSU attaches great importance to the cooperation with UoC, and hoped that the two universities will further consolidate and expand cooperation and exchange.
Prof. Michael Bollig reviewed the collaborations between UoC and SYSU in many fields and introduced UoC’s curriculum and credit system. He pointed out that SYSU is an important partner of UoC, and hoped that the two universities will expand forms and fields of cooperation on the basis of existing collaborations.
Before the meeting, the UoC delegation also exchanged ideas with representatives from OICE of SYSU on future cooperation plan between the two universities.
SYSU signed a university-level cooperation agreement with UoC in 2005. In 2012, the two universities signed an agreement on Global Network Partnership. At present, UoC has active cooperation with several schools and departments of SYSU, including School of Geography and Planning, School of Foreign Languages, School of International Studies, Department of Philosophy and Sun Yat-sen Business School.
