On the afternoon of November 20, Zhuhai Campus 15th Anniversary Exhibition and Development Forum was held in the library on Zhuhai Campus, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), as part of the celebration events of the 90th anniversary of SYSU and the 15th anniversary of Zhuhai Campus.

Mr. Zhou Yuanqing, Honorary President of China Association of Higher Education and Former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education; Prof. Li Yanbao, Former Party Secretary of SYSU; Prof. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Mr. Yang Xiaoguang, Chairman of the CPPCC Foshan Municipal Committee and Former Vice President of SYSU; Prof. Liang Qingyin, Former Executive Deputy Secretary of SYSU; Ms. Long Guangyan, Deputy Mayor of Zhuhai, attended the event. The event was presided over by Prof. Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU.

Zhou Yuanqing, Zheng Detao, Yang Xiaoguang, Liang Qingyin, Chen Chunsheng and Long Guangyan jointly unveiled the 15th Anniversary Exhibition of Zhuhai Campus. The distinguished guests watched the exhibition, looking back on the achievements of Zhuhai Campus in the past 15 years in disciplines construction, talent cultivation, local services and international exchange.

Professor Zheng Detao delivered a speech at the Zhuhai Campus Development Forum. He sincerely thanked all those who have participated in the construction of Zhuhai Campus and all faculty, staff and students who love Zhuhai Campus. He emphasized that Zhuhai Campus would continue to deepen reform, create academic environment and atmosphere, and strengthen cooperation with Zhuhai City.

Ms. Long Guangyan pointed out the importance of university to regional economic and social development. She hoped that SYSU would integrate better with Zhuhai, and promised that Zhuhai would provide better services for SYSU. Mr. Yang Xiaoguang praised the builders of Zhuhai Campus and had high expectations for the students of Zhuhai Campus.

Mr. Zhou Yuanqing reviewed the construction history of SYSU Zhuhai Campus, and put forward four points on how to improve higher education: the fundamental task of a university is to cultivate talents; improving quality is an everlasting theme of the university; undergraduate education is the basis; knowledge, ability and quality are the three elements of talent cultivation. He emphasized the importance of academic atmosphere, which reflects the quality and culture of a university.

Prof. Li Yanbao said that Zhuhai Campus has laid a foundation for SYSU’s rapid development in the new century. Zhuhai Campus has gathered SYSUers together and added colors to the cultural tradition of SYSU.

The Zhuhai Campus Development Forum was aimed to review the past history, show the present status and depict the future plan of Zhuhai Campus.
