Mr. Jorge Heine, Ambassador of Chile to China, visited SYSU and gave a lecture

On the afternoon of November 26, 2014, Mr. Jorge Heine, Ambassador of Chile to China, visited SYSU, accompanied by Mr. Carlos Marin, Consul of the Consulate General of Chile in Guangzhou. Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests. Dr. Huang Ruimin, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of SYSU, was also present at the meeting.

Prof. Zhu Xiping extended a warm welcome to Mr. Jorge Heign and introduced the general situation of SYSU. Nearly ten years ago, Mr. Pablo Cabrera, Former Ambassador of Chile to China, visited SYSU and gave a lecture to the faculty and students. This visit by Mr. Jorge Heign will further enhance the friendship between SYSU and Chile, and promote future cooperation and exchange.

Mr. Jorge Heign thanked SYSU for the warm reception. Chile is the first South American country that established diplomatic relationship with China. Next year will be the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relation between China and Chile. He hoped that the two countries would work together to promote cooperation, and meanwhile, he encouraged universities in Chile to have more communication and exchange with SYSU.
After the meeting, Mr. Jorge Heign gave a lecture entitled “Reaching Across the Pacific: Latin America and Asia in the New Century” on South Campus of SYSU. The lecture was moderated by Associate Professor Wang Xuedong from the School of Asia-Pacific Studies at SYSU. Mr. Jorge Heign talked about the relationship between China and Chile, the relationship between Asia and Latin America in the new century as well as the prospects of development. The lecture was warmly welcomed by SYSU faculty and students.
